(Item#208) 2011 Gibson Custom Shop Dave Johnson Full Makeover 1959 Les Paul Reissue
(Item#208) 2011 '59 reissue with a complete Dave Johnson Makeover including Brazilian board. I bought this guitar brand new in 2011 and then sent it right to Dave, I asked Dave for a burst color that was close to Pearly Gates but with a little more red and it's gorgeous!! Here's what was done: Complete refinish with vintage style nitro lacquer, real finish checking and aging, re-shape top carve, re-shape neck, vintage accurate truss rod w/ no sleeve, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with real celluloid inlays. Here's a list of the aftermarket parts included: Zhangbucker "Pure Handwound" Brownbuckers wound exclusively for MGL mounted in TruVintage pickup rings, TruVintage aged knobs, poker chip, jackplate, rolled truss rod cover and ABR-1 thumbwheels & posts, RS Guitarworks - aged nickel Grover tuners, Dave Johnson pickguard. (All of the original parts are also included). Guitar weighs 8 lbs 7 ounces, very comfortable and vintage accurate "C" shape neck that measures: 1st fret - .882", 12th fret - .983". The first thing I noticed after the guitar is really alive in your hands and the whole thing vibrates when played acoustically! Plugged into an amp it has everything you'd want, The bottom end is tight and focused, mids are clear, fat and honky with some nice overtones and pinched harmonics are effortless almost anywhere on the neck, top end has good presence and sizzle but without being at all harsh, real classic old LP tone! Guitar is still in the exact condition as it came back from Dave in, no extra wear, frets are still brand new looking with no wear, guitar comes with all paperwork, certificate, letter from Dave Johnson and original black Gibson Custom case.
